About Me

My  name is Alma Sanchez. I was born in Torrance California but was raised in the Imperial Valley.  I did all my schooling back there K-12.  My elementary and Junior high school were dominantly of latino students.  On the other hand my high school was really diverse.  I am a first generation college student and the second of my siblings to graduate from college.  I always liked school and it was always in my head that I will go to college because that was what my parents would always tell me.  Now I'm a graduating senior this semester with a Human Development major and a Spanish minor.  I am currently taking the pre-requisites to enter the credential program.  A few months ago I decided I wanted to become an elementary teacher, so I extended my graduation for one more semester in order to complete the pre-requisites and enter the multiple subject credential next fall.  I love working with kids.  I have worked as a tutor for four years and have worked with students from K-12.  Making a difference in their lives is my passion and their learning is my motivation to become the best elementary teacher I can possibly be.

I love technology.  I honestly think that it helps and it just makes your life easier.  It takes me a while to get the hang of it, but with practice I am able to use it. In my job i have noticed that schools along with teachers are starting to use technology in their classrooms as part of their lesson plans and resources.  kids are engaged and learn to use technology along with the class curriculum.  I just think that is really interesting. Although I like technology and how it is used in classrooms, I also am a strong believer that students need more than sitting behind a computer in a classroom.

I really feel the mission statement of the school of education is great.  Diversity and inclusiveness is really important for teachers and schools.  I think I still need to learn a lot about these two terms, but I feel it is really important to know because our classrooms are really diverse and educators need to know how to include and make everyone feel comfortable and have a great learning environment.

  1. Alma,
I'm glad to hear that you want to be a teacher :) You must be very patient because I don't know how you could be a tutor for so long especially tutor children of different ages.
    I'm sure you'll be a great teacher
